Aged Care Therapy
Supporting independence, confidence, and quality of life - at home and in clinic across the Hibiscus Coast and surrounding areas.
Many people start to notice small shifts - feeling less steady, moving more cautiously, avoiding things that used to feel easy. It’s often put down to “just getting older.”
But balance, strength, and movement don’t simply disappear, they change. And with the right support, they can be worked on.
At Hibiscus Neuro Rehab, aged care therapy is built around what matters most to you, or the person you care for.
We take the time to understand your situation, your goals, and what a good day actually looks like - then we build a programme around that.
Therapy Focused on What Matters Most
Aged care therapy is not about pushing people through a standard programme. Aged care therapy isn’t about working through a standard set of exercises.
It is about understanding what someone wants to be able to do - and finding the most effective, sustainable way to support that and finding a practical, realistic way to support that.
We work with older adults both at home and in clinic, across a wide range of needs, always building the approach around the individual, not the other way around.
Areas we focus on for support
Falls Prevention and Balance
Falls are one of the most significant risks for older adults, and one of the most preventable. We assess what is contributing to your balance difficulties and develop a targeted programme to improve stability, build movement confidence, and reduce the risk of falls at home and in the community. Feeling unsteady doesn't have to be your normal.
Mobility and Walking Confidence
Walking changes can happen gradually - smaller steps, slower pace, more caution on uneven ground. Over time, that can start to limit where you go and what you do. We focus on improving confidence, endurance, and safety so you can keep moving through the places that matter to you.
Strength and Conditioning
Strength matters more as we age - not less. Targeted strengthening work supports balance, mobility, and the ability to manage everyday physical demands safely and confidently. We build programmes that are realistic, achievable, and designed around your body and your goals.
Home Safety Assessment and Equipment
Sometimes the environment itself makes things harder than they need to be. We assess your home setup and identify simple, practical changes that can support safer movement and greater independence, without making your home feel clinical or unfamiliar.
Cognitive Support and Fatigue
Fatigue, reduced concentration, or memory changes are common - particularly after illness or neurological change. What many people don’t realise is that energy and thinking can be managed with the right strategies. We work with you on practical ways to manage your day, use your energy more effectively, and stay engaged in the things that give your day meaning.
Supporting Independence in Daily Living
Everyday tasks - getting dressed, preparing meals, personal care, are what define independence. When these start to feel harder, confidence often drops quickly. We focus on practical, achievable strategies that support you to do more for yourself, for longer, in ways that feel manageable and sustainable.
You might notice:
Holding onto walls or furniture more than you used to
Moving more cautiously, or taking longer to do everyday tasks
Avoiding uneven ground, stairs, or busy environments
Feeling less steady when turning, bending, or multitasking
A general sense that your balance isn’t as reliable as it used to be
If any of this sounds familiar, it’s worth getting it checked.
Your Questions Answered
Do I need a referral to book an appointment?
No. You're welcome to contact us directly to book an initial consultation - no GP or ACC referral needed. Family members are also welcome to get in touch on behalf of someone they care for.
Can family members be involved in the process?
Absolutely. We encourage family and support people to be involved where it’s helpful. Understanding what someone is working on - and why - can make a real difference to how well rehabilitation carries over into everyday life.
What happens at the first appointment?
Your first session is about understanding you - what’s been going on, what’s getting in the way, and what matters most right now. We’ll complete an assessment and talk through what therapy may look like for you, at your pace and around your goals.
Do you do home visits?
Yes. Home visits are available across the Hibiscus Coast and surrounding areas. Get in touch and we’ll talk through what works best.
What if the person I’m enquiring for has dementia or cognitive changes?
We have experience working with people living with cognitive changes.
Our approach is adapted to the individual - keeping sessions calm, clear, and consistent. Family and support people are encouraged to be involved where it helps.
How long does aged care therapy take?
It depends entirely on the person and their goals. Some people benefit from a short course of focused sessions; others find ongoing support helps them maintain their independence and confidence over time. We'll talk through with you honesty and work out what's likely to make the most difference.
