At Hibiscus Neuro Rehab we are committed to the ongoing management and well-being of our clients. We will continue to stay connected to our community, offering our current clients and any person who is need of neurological physiotherapy input via Telehealth.
Virtual Health sessions allow our existing clients the opportunity to participate in intensive therapy, have reassessments as needed, and progressions made to their home exercise programs. For many the social interaction, ongoing support and education is vital - particularly in this unprecedented time - and help take some of the burden off primary health care services.
Please see below a list of services that the physiotherapists at Hibiscus Neuro Rehab are currently able to provide to clients via Virtual Health Services.
Stroke / Head Injury / Spinal Cord Injury Rehabilitation: For our existing clients we are providing ongoing sessions aimed at strength and balance, gait/mobility/transfer training, education, carer training and home exercise progression. For new clients, an initial consultation and set up of a home exercise program can also be offered via telehealth. Our therapists are skilled at working with clients in their homes and adapting to using items around their home to assist them with their exercises. In some instances a support person in the home may be needed for safety, however all tasks can be modified to meet the individuals needs.
Upper Limb Rehabilitation: Telehealth is a very conducive method for the ongoing assessment of the upper limb, and as a way to deliver coaching, feedback and exercise prescription without the need for any hands-on guidance. Our therapists are experienced in upper limb rehabilitation and will be offering therapy that is intensity driven and evidenced-based. All clients will be set up with daily log, to help them record the amount of upper limb training they are doing, including number of repetitions, and amount of functional training, keeping them accountable and motivated.
Parkinson’s Disease Initial assessments for newly diagnosed Parkinson’s clients and ongoing follow up sessions will continue to be offered via Telehealth. Also all our regular Parkinson’s classes are being run online via telehealth. These are scheduled at our regular times as follows:
PD Warrior Class Mondays at 5-6 pm online.
Up and Active Class Thursdays 1.30-2.30pm online.
Falls Prevention: Mobility and balance can be assessed via Telehealth. We can work with clients to set up and maintain existing exercise programs. Exercises which focus on strength and balance can be implemented for clients who are at risk of falling, or who have fallen. Education can be provided to the client and/or their carer also. Advice around mobility aids is also easily done via Telehealth.
Vestibular Rehabilitation: We can continue to assess and treat clients who are presenting with ongoing dizziness. This will also involve screening for central conditions, and anything that may be a red flag that would need further investigations. We are able to offer treatment for BPPV, vestibular hypofunction and central vestibular conditions. We can continue to provide ongoing support, education and exercises for both dizziness and balance aspects of a well rounded vestibular rehabilitation program. Concussion: As part of our service we work with ACC contract holders and have access to concussion contract provision, and we can continue to assess and treat existing and new concussions as the needs arise. Telehealth set up for clients: This is a difficult time for all at present, and coming to terms with embracing new technology can be daunting at the best of times. We will initially work with clients to set up their telehealth services as part of their therapy and this will be done on a complementary basis so this works for them. We are currently using Zoom but for those in the community that find this difficult we also have other options. We are also able to share electronic exercise programs for clients so that they can continue to be independent.
