Neuroplasticity - The brains ability to change

Neuroplasticity refers to the plastic ability of the brain and nervous system, which are able to continuously remodel throughout one’s life time. Neuroplasticity is the fundamental key to creating any form of change whether physical or mental. The more you think, act or move in a certain way the strength of those neurons increase over time making those actions your innate habits.

To improve or change you need to promote neuroplastic changes which are driven by the use of six core principles in conjunction;

  1. Meaningful – The outcome and activity must be interesting and relevant to the individual
  2. Repetitive – Thousands of repetitions are need to build new pathways
  3. Intensity – Need to work hard enough to increase the cardio and respiratory drive to release essential hormones into the brain
  4. Specific – To the skill required to achieve the goal
  5. Challenging and varied – To build the base to perform the skill in any setting
  6. Timed – The complete task must be completed in day to day life successfully not just in therapy
