PD warrior is a program that is aimed at patients with newly diagnosed Parkinson's Disease. It targets patients at diagnosis because we know by the time physical symptoms of Parkinson's is present that there is also a significant loss of dopamine producing cells with in the brain already. However the program can be tailor made to suit most levels and the best time to start exercising is now. PD warrior is based on seven principal's that are incorporated in to an exercise program as well as an exercise class. These are based around the principals of neuroplasticity; with neuroplasticity been the brains ability to rewire and create new pathways. There by improving function.

Frequently Asked Questions: Is PD Warrior only for patients newly diagnosed with Parkinson's disease? PD warrior is aimed at patients that are newly diagnosed, but it can be tailored to suit a person at any stage of their journey we bring together all our knowledge to tailor a package of treatment that will suit your needs. We encourage patients to have therapy at diagnosis as this is where they will get the most out of the program and have the best chance of slowing their condition. However there is no better time to start that right now even with a diagnosis years ago we have seen changes and improvements when people target the right exercise for them.
Do I need to have an assessment before joining the PD warrior circuit class? Yes - to come to the PD warrior circuit class you need to have completed a one on one assessment and at least two sessions, this class is much faster pace than our Up and Active class and you need to know what you are working on to get the is so most out of the class and know how to best manage your Parkinson's.
Do I have to attend the exercise classes? It is recommended that you attend at least one class as you gain further benefits from the therapy staff and meet others who can share your journey. PD warrior however can be delivered as individual sessions after the first introductory sessions.
Do I need to attend or have review sessions? We recommend that you have review sessions to monitor your Parkinson's by having regular review sessions we are able to catch any deterioration early and put strategies in place to manage your condition effectively.
We have been to your service before how does this differ? We have been working with people with Parkinson's disease for over 10+ years and talking about some of these high intensity principals before now, with our ongoing training in PD warrior and other Parkinson's treatment philosophies we are now providing an even better more comprehensive service with the most up to date research and proven treatment strategies. We are able to bring you the PD warrior signature 10 week challenge and PD warrior circuit class.
Does doing exercise for Parkinson's mean we should stop or could stop our medication? No - we strongly advocate that exercises and medication for the treatment of Parkinson's disease go hand in hand. What it has been shown is that people who exercise in a neuro-active manner may not need to increase their medication dose as fast and that exercise may help to with better uptake and use of medication with in your system.
How often should I exercise? We recommend that you exercise daily, and once you have completed the PD warrior 10 week challenge then this can be any exercise you enjoy. PD warrior is about teaching you principals so you can take them and use them in your everyday life. You need to exercise daily as it keeps the brain fit and active and has shown to have the best results for managing your condition.
